About Raymond Wijngaard

Raymond is a Dutch graphic and webdesigner with many years of experience. He has worked at various communication and design agencies where he created creative work for small and larges corporations.

Doing client work means however that you have to obey to the wishes of clients and end users. Although that is a lovely process with interesting outcomes and a lot of creativity, Raymond wanted a project where he could create designs without the restraints from those clients and users. Something where he could follow his personal creativity and interests. And on top of that to challenge himself as a designer, to experiment en try new things. Stepping out of his comfort zone and standard patterns. With the poster art designs he is able to do that. Succesfully.

Inspired by Bauhaus

The reason that Raymond started creating posters can be found in the Bauhaus movement from the 1920s and 1930s which started in Weimar (Germany) and moved to Dessau (Germany).

After his first visit to the Bauhaus Schule and Museum in Dessau, Raymond got inspired by the Bauhaus aesthetics and philosophy. And by the iconic shapes and colors that are so closely associated with Bauhaus: the triangle, square and circle, in red, blue and yellow.

This kicked off the dedicated Instagram page @bauhausschule. There he shared many Bauhaus photos and little by little he started to design and share posters as well.

Besides the iconic shapes and colors, Bauhaus is also known for the idea of experimenting and creating new shapes. They called it back then a ‘Probierplatz’.

And that is what he took to heart, experimenting in his design work. Experimenting beyond what he is used to in his client work.
